I feel that it’s everyone’s responsibility to be an active part in community you live in. While living in China I have made education outreach an integral part of my mission and have been rewarded many times over by meeting people that have an innate class and grace that peak volumes irrespective of their perceived social status, or socioeconomic background.

This trip was one of my first. In the summer of 2011 with the help of donations from friends and family I donated computers to economically disadvantaged students in rural China. One amazing student impressed me so much that I decided to personally deliver her computer as well as pay her tuition for the year. It was an amazing trip.

The staff of the Number One Middle School in Laifeng went out of their way to make me feel welcome and at home! I felt like a president! My bus arrived late at night and they picked me up, took me to dinner and drove me to the town where the school was (an over 2 hour drive). Instead of being with their families they wanted to make sure that I was taken care of.

The students were great! They were energetic and we all had a good time. I was able to give out some 'lucky money' to a few students, and a few students got Mr. Jackson's Zone T-Shirts!

After giving a few presentations at the school I had to rush to catch a train so they took me to lunch and drove me over three hours to catch my train...AND they even paid my train fair! The experience was humbling and I hope I get the chance to go back. I've been thinking…maybe I need to do a Mr. Jackson's Zone Road Trip Across China!

The reason I visited the school was because I got a essay from a special little girl that entered my computer giveaway contest. She is the first recipient of the the "Mr. Jackson's Zone Academic Scholarship". The next year I made sure all of her school fees were paid for.

Once again, I want to thank the staff and students at the Laifeng No.1 Middle School for having me. I can't wait to come back!!
