I think every teacher loves students that are really into English. I have had students that I could discuss Emerson with explain connotation and they just “get it” in seconds. I spend as much extra time with these students as I do with the students that struggle. Many times because they are by far the best students in the class, they aren’t challenged enough to fully realize their potential. These students also need to be nurtured and encouraged to explore the language in ways that they previously haven’t.

Also I find that these students have gaps in fundamental rules of grammar and writing.

I try to impress on them the power of total immersion (as much as possible) in reaching new heights in their command of the language.
